SCaLE 5x First Day Report - Part I

SCaLE 5x started this morning and it has been a lot of fun so far. Axel, Michael (Phipps), Jorge (Mare) and myself (BGA) came down to the exhibit floor early this morning to setup the booth in advance of the opening. We have a 10x10 booth with a table and a couple of chairs, so we setup a small form factor desktop PC hooked up to a 20 inch LCD monitor, and a couple of laptops, an IBM running Haiku natively, and a MacBook Pro running Haiku inside Parallels. We are still waiting for an additional PC and a projector that did not make in time, as Michael's luggage was sent to the wrong destination.

There is a lot of traffic on floor, and a lot of people has stopped by and shown interest in what we are doing. And the audience is also right: plenty of geeks with a passion for innovative stuff. Let's hope that we get a good audience at the first BoF tonight.

Stay tuned for another report later today.

Now I've got a reason to get Parallels.

"and a MacBook Pro running Haiku inside Parallels."

Now I've got a reason to get Parallels.

All I ask for is choice. I want to be able to go into any store you can buy a computer in and say, "I want ______ OS on this computer." Is that too much to ask? We can't always be looking out Windows. Sometimes we need to get work done.

Don't jump on Parallels yet

I haven't been able to get Haiku working in the latest RC, so I wouldn't be quick to purchase just yet.

Has anyone been able to get the Haiku builds working in Parallels build 3150? It used to work perfectly but with the latest round of Parallels betas it isn't working anymore. Hints anyone?

Parallels

I successfully booted last night's haiku build on my mac with Parallels build 1970

Stan - Is there any special instructions

Stan - Is there any special instructions for doing this? Or is it really straight forward?

The betas won't boot it,

The betas won't boot it, however. I tried removing networking and I still get the same kernel crash (some vm_allocation error).

Just wondering if anyone using the RC/latest version had any luck booting Haiku. Guess not.
